Finding Reality During A Time Of Illusions
In the day and age that we are in where social media is our go-to source to learn new things, find information, display our art, our lives, our hardwork, sometimes it becomes hard to draw the line between what is staged and what is real. Of course, a lot of times the things we are seeing are real, but we do not see the "behind the scenes"; the frustrations, the lost battles, the "no" for an answer, the fight to get where you are. Instead, we see the good moments because that is what people choose to share. That is why it is extremely important to look for the people who are real and reach to you on a different level than others.
One of those social media influencers for me was Jeanne Grey of @GreyLayers. I found her instagram page last year and not only did her unique style draw me in, but so did her attitude and drive. Not only does she fill her page with inspirational and positive affirmations, but she also makes you realize that it is normal to feel down sometimes, as much as other people make it seem like life is perfect EVERY day. That is why when I heard that she was launching her own label I knew I had to support it.
Grey's products, which include earrings, bracelets and a bag, are all handmade by women in the Philippines...how truly amazing is that?! And a portion of the proceeds go to Salvador Campus which is a college on the island. Not only does this label support an amazing cause and provide jobs to women, but these products are all made from up-cycled material like wood and resin.
I originally wanted to buy the Princesa earrings, but the sold out immediately, which was a bummer for me, but such a success for From The Label! My second choice, which I ended up getting were the Tala earrings. When I received them the first thing that caught my attention was the fact that they came with a handwritten note. That is astounding because it adds a personal touch which I feel is not available anymore! Next, when I opened the box, the colors of the earrings just took my breath away; so bright and beautiful!! Since they are made from wood and many intricate pieces, I expected some weight to them, but they are actually super light. I wore them all day and while most statement earrings irritate my ears after a while, these did not at all.
As for my outfit details, I wanted to keep my outfit as neutral as possible so that the earrings were the main focus. I wore tan trousers, which you can find here and paired them with a white off the shoulder top, similar one here. I wore tan sandals and my denim boho bag with it. Like I said, super simple because I wanted the earrings to do all the talking ;)
As someone who is trying to make a brand out of their name, it is inspirational to find women out there who are doing the same and succeeding, while staying true to themselves. While I may not know her personally, I am proud that Jeanne Grey has built a label that not only supplies us with unique product that has amazing quality, but it also stands for and supports something real and important. If you have not checked out From The Label yet, make sure you do so. And also, follow GreyLayers for some dope outfits and daily inspiration to kick some butt!
xx,
Kasia
